Announcements

4/24/12
This Saturday at 11:00am is the end of the year tournament at Timber Banks Nicklaus Designed Golf Course.  Timber Banks is a really nice course, and the weather is supposed to hold off, so this should be a great opportunity for us this weekend.  We are currently in first place in the league, so we should try to win this thing.  This is our last event of the spring, so everyone should try their best to be available for it.  I know Mayfest is on Friday, but everyone should be good to go on Saturday.  We already paid $180 for it with club funds, so we cannot back out.  We should be back by around 4:30pm.

4/21/12
Today's match against Cortland was cancelled due to weather.  I tried to reschedule for tomorrow, but they can't do that, so we're going to try and makeup our match against Ithaca tomorrow.  Hopefully they get enough guys to play. I'll keep you posted on everything when I hear back from Ithaca.

4/17/12
We got the win against Binghamton this past week by 43 shots.  Nice work.  Practice this week will be on Friday at 4:00pm.  Match is on Saturday at 12:00pm.  Hopefully we get another great day for it.  I posted updated standings and results.

4/7/12
Got the win today against Brockport.  I posted the updated standings and results.

4/6/12
Tomorrow's match is against Brockport at Salmon Creek Country club.  We're planning on leaving around 7:15 because it takes two hours to get there.  The top 6 know who they are.  If anything changes I'll stay in touch.

3/30/12
Barring a great improvement in the weather in the next couple hours, it looks like tomorrow's match is going to be cancelled.  I'll let everyone know if something changes.

3/26/12
This week's practices will be on Wednesday and Friday. Practices will be primarily a driving range session with Ken and a 9 hole practice round.  Range balls will be provided and Ken will be able to help everyone with their full swing.  After that, we will probably head over the practice green to hit a few chips.  This will last about an hour, maybe a little more depending on how many people show up.  Competitive and non-competitive players are both encouraged to attend.  After the sessions, anyone who wants to play 9 holes can head out onto the course.
This weekend, we are home against Ithaca on Saturday.  They played Brockport this past weekend and won, but our net score was 3 points lower than theirs, so we are currently in first place in the league.  Let's keep it up this weekend. Everyone is invited to play this weekend because it is a home match, so whether or not you are in the top 6, you can still play with us and get a score in.

3/24/12
Successful match today against Cortland @ Willowbrook Golf Course.  We got the win.  I posted the updated standings and results as well, so check them out.  We will probably have practice this Friday for sure and maybe another range session during the week depending on the weather.

3-23-12
Current standings can be found under the "stats/standings" tab.  Tomorrow, we will bring the top 6 people, but Greg and Marc are both unable to come, so that leaves the following people:  Bram, Jon, Kyle, JT, Ben, Tom.  Tomorrow's match is at 10:00am, so we are planning to leave Syracuse around 8:30am so we can get up there early and hit some balls, practice, etc.  We are currently working on getting a second car (Tom will drive one), because we need two cars to carry 6 of us plus our bags.  If anyone has a car but isn't using it tomorrow, we would really appreciate it if we could borrow it.  Your dues will be reduced and we should be back by around 4pm.  Also, if you know of someone who is willing to donate their car, let me know ASAP.  We really need another one, or else we are going to have to forfeit.  Thanks a lot.

3-19-12
The weather has been nice for the past couple weeks and is supposed to be really nice this week too, so we plan on starting the spring golf season this week.  We will have practices this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at Drumlins at 3:30pm.  Our first match will be away this Saturday against Cortland.
New members
New members that plan on playing on the competitive team need to attend at least 2 of the practice rounds this week and get scores in.  If your scores are good enough so that you are in the top 6, you will be invited to play on Saturday.  Let me know if for some reason you cannot make any of these tryouts and we can try to arrange something else.
Members from last semester
If you are member from last semester, please remember that your score resets each semester.  If you attend practices this week, you will start out on a clean slate.  If you do not attend practices this week or for some reason are not able to, we will use your scores from last semester.  You guys don't have to come to at least 2 practice rounds to be eligible, but you are encouraged to get out and play.
Practices
Practice sessions will most likely consist of 9 hole practice rounds.  If we are able to get driving range balls from the pro shop, we will have a warmup on the driving range before heading out onto the course.  Our coach, Ken Walcyk, will probably be available to help people with their swings this week and around the greens.  Details on that will follow.

3-4-12
I had to remove the catalogs from the site because there is pricing information on them.  We don't want any of the companies getting mad at us and then dropping the program.  If you have an inquiry about buying a specific piece of equipment, please direct your attention to Ken Walcyk: sugolfcoach@yahoo.com

2-20-12
We had another successful trip to Turningstone on Friday.  7 people went this time.  We definitely plan on going a couple more times before the spring season starts.  Hopefully, the weather will permit a trip to Drumlins in the near future.

2-13-12
We brought 3 people to the indoor driving range at Turningstone last Friday.  We all agreed that it was a pretty nice facility and it gave us a good opportunity to practice. We plan on doing it again this Friday, 2/17.  I'm going to send out an email asking who's in, so respond to my email if you want to go. It's $8 for an hour for as many balls as you can hit.  Turningstone is about 35-40 minutes away in case you are wondering.  Also, I've updated the website a little bit.

10-4-11
Unfortunately our match for this past Sunday at Ithaca was cancelled due to bad course/playing conditions.  We will have our final match of the season at Camillus Country Club on Sunday at 11:00am.

9-29-11
Practice tomorrow at 4:00pm as long as the weather holds up.  I also have a couple range tokens left over for anyone that wants to use the range.  Meet on the first tee at 4:00pm. Match this weekend is against Ithaca, and it has been changed to Sunday at 9:00am at Trumansburg GC. End of the year tournament has been moved to October 9th at 11:00am.  Check the top 6 under stats/standings and let me know if you are going to be able to attend this weekend ASAP.  I've already heard from Sean, JP, and Bram.  They are all attending.

9-22-11
We got the loss by 1 stroke this past weekend against ESF at the Links at Sunset Ridge.  It was a really nice course, but unfortunately, also pretty tough.  We are looking to rebound this weekend against Brockport on Saturday and against ESF and OCC on Sunday.  Matches will be held at Salmon Creek Country Club on Satrurday and at the Links at Sunset Ridge on Sunday.  We will bring 6 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.  We will have another 9 hole practice round tomorrow, Friday, 9/23.  People who aren't in the top 6 can use tomorrow's practice round as an opportunity to catapult themselves into the top 6.  Updated standings are posted.  If you are in the top 6 but don't plan on coming, you need to let me know so I can ask other people.  Also, we recently found out that end of the year tournament will be held at Camillus Country Club.

9-11-11
We got the win yesterday against ESF and Cazenovia.  Nice work.  Scores will be coming in the next few days.  We are probably going to have a range session on Friday at 4:00pm.  Ken will be there to help everyone out.

9-8-11
Updated scores are posted under stats.  Remember that you have to participate in at least two practice rounds and be in the top 6 (5 this week) to play in away matches.

9-7-11
Today's tryout is cancelled due to rain/course conditions

9-7-11
Tryout dates this week will be:

Wednesday, 4:00pm at Drumlins West
Thursday, 4:00pm at Drumlins West
Friday, 11:15am at Drumlins West
Friday, 4:00pm at Drumlins West

For those of you that have only been to one tryout, you need to come to at least one more to be eligible to play in the match this weekend
For those of you that haven't been to any tryouts so far, you need to come to at least two of the above dates to be eligible to play in the match this weekend.

Please let me know (jdspurr@syr.edu) which tryout(s) you plan on attending.

9-2-11
We had a great turnout for our first day of tryouts.  18 total people tried out.  Standings so far can be found under the Stats/Standings tab.  Unfortunately, Cortland cancelled for tomorrow, so we will have to reschedule that for a later date.  We will still meet tomorrow for an 18 hole practice round at Drumlins at 10am.

8-30-11
We just picked up another match for what was our bye week, the weekend of September 10th, against Cazenovia and ESF in the Cazenovia Invitational.  The match will be played at Green Lakes golf course.

8-29-11
Tryouts are at Drumlins West golf course. There is a bus that you can catch from College Place that goes directly to the course on the day of tryouts if you don't have a ride.  Click on Misc. info at the top of the page and scroll all the way down to get to the bus schedule.

8-23-11
The club fair will be on Tuesday, September 6th from 5:30-7:30pm in Flanagan gymnasium.  This is a great way to let us know that you are interested in joining the club.  If you've already expressed interest in the club and you have gotten me your name, email, etc, then you are all set.  If you haven't taken any action regarding joining the club, going to the club fair is probably a good idea.  Also, if you want any additional information or just want to meet some of the guys on the team, feel free to come by and we'd love to meet you and tell you more about the club.  We'll have a table set up all night, so definitely come by.

Also please note that there will be a short meeting before tryouts on the putting green. Try to get to tryouts a little early so we can be sure how many people we have.

8-15-11
The first email to everyone on the mailing list just went out.  It is regarding the first day of tryouts.  If you didn't get the email and would've liked to, email me at jdspurr@syr.edu and I will add you to the list.  The announcement is that the first of three tryout dates will be Friday, September 2nd at around 4:00pm.  Note this is probably before the club fair.  Dates on the second and third tryout dates are still to come.

7-27-11
Since our season begins so close to the start of school, the tryout dates are still being discussed.  As for the way tryouts are run, which I've been getting a lot of questions about, we will most likely have two days of tryouts to see where everyone is at.  The top 6/7 golfers will be allowed to travel to away matches.  I will probably ask everyone who is trying out to come to at least one of the two tryout dates, but if you come to both I will take your best score.  There is an ongoing standings list throughout the whole year, so those who are playing well can still travel with the team even if they don't make it the first weekend.

7-12-11
The tentative schedule for Fall 2011 CNYCGL is posted.  We will try to play somewhere else during our bye week with the league.

7-6-11
For current members, the Fall 2011 catalog is now posted on the site.  It is under the membership tab.

6-26-11
Congratulations to Bram Berkowitz on qualifying for the Massachusetts Amateur Golf Tournament.  The tournament will take place in Great Barrington, MA from July 11-15.  We wish him the best of luck.

5-7-11
We ended the spring season on a good note, coming in 2nd place in the ESF Spring Invitational Tournament.  Good season guys. I think everyone is looking forward to next fall.  We took some pictures at the tournament today, which are posted below.  The final team standings for the spring are also posted.
5-5-11
The pairings for Saturday's match are posted below.

5-1-11
We lost to Brockport by 9 strokes yesterday at Drumlins.  We have another match next weekend at the Links at Erie Village for the ESF invitational.  We are still trying to schedule make up dates for the matches that got cancelled the previous two weeks.  Practice this week will either be on Tuesday or Wednesday for anyone who is interested.  I also updated the stats/standings section.

4-29-11
Match tomorrow against Brockport is on for 10am at Drumlins.  Anyone who wants to play can attend and we'll get you out.  Don't forget to bring your dues.

4-21-11
Match this weekend against Binghamton is cancelled.  Too many people from Binghamton went home for Easter/Passover.  We are trying to reschedule.  I will still be playing tomorrow at 3:30pm for anyone that wants to join.

4-19-11
My email address is jdspurr@syr.eduAs most of you already know, our match this past Saturday was first postponed to Sunday because of rain, and then cancelled on Sunday due to the course in Cortland being flooded.  We will try to reschedule for another date.  Practice this week will be on Friday at 3:30pm.  Everyone also needs to send me an email telling me whether or not you will be around this weekend.  I know it's Easter weekend, and I just need to make sure we are going to have enough guys for the match, which is at home this weekend.

4-15-11
Match tomorrow is rescheduled for Sunday at 10 am in Cortland.  It is supposed to rain heavily tomorrow, so Sunday will be better.  We are playing at Willowbrook Golf Club.

There will be a practice round tomorrow at Drumlins at 3:30pm.

4-14-11
Got our first win of the season yesterday with a two point win over Ithaca.  Nice work guys, considering we only managed to bring 5 players  Let's try to get more people out to our match next Saturday against Cortland.  I've updated the results section and am in the process of updating the stats section.  Should be up a little bit later on today.  We'll probably have one or two practices this week, with hopefully a driving range session mixed in there because I think we all need some more swings.  I still have a bunch of shirts to give out to people from last semester, so if you go to practice this week, I'll give you your shirts.  Just make sure you guys all get me or Jose your dues. $30/semester.  No shirts will be given out unless you've paid up.  We looked real professional at the match yesterday, and I'd like to keep it that way.  I'll be in touch about practice days/times later on this week.4-10-11

4-7-11

We had five people show up to the practice round today, which went well.  Practice again tomorrow, Friday April 8th, at Drumlins at 3:15pm.

4-5-11
We have our first practice this Thursday, April 7th, at Drumlins at 4:25pm.  For anyone who wants to get there early, Coach Walcyk will be there at 3:30pm.

4-2-11
The schedule for the spring season is up.  The weather is getting warmer, and we have a bunch of people who are looking to tryout for the team this spring, so hopefully we can find a nice day this week and get everyone out onto Drumlins.  Our first match is April 9th, so one week from today.  We won't have much time to work the dust off before we jump right into the season, so be prepared for that.  Other than that, hope we all are looking forward to hittin' the links.

2-12-11
Congrats to the Fall 2010 CNYCGL Champions, Syracuse.  The cup is in.  Check out the pictures below.  We are working to get an awards day together so the cup can be presented to the team and the Daily Orange can take some pictures.  The Spring season is going to be here before we know it, so it's time to start thinking about getting back into the swing of things.  We are in the process of organizing an instructional session, which would include video analysis, sometime in the near future.  We are still on track to play TC3, SUNY ESF, Ithaca, and Cortland this Spring.  Remember, the spring season goes by much quicker than the fall, so we don't have much time to get the rust off before playing in serious matches.
